The Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD), in collaboration with Sarawak Skills, successfully concluded Batch Two (2) of the Sustainable Modern Agriculture Through Rural Technopreneurship (SMART) Programme 2025 on 21 August 2025 at Purnama Hotel, Limbang.
The month-long programme, held from 21 July to 21 August 2025 at Purnama Hotel Limbang, formed part of the Rural ICT Training and Development Initiative. A total of 24 participants from the local Limbang community took part, gaining valuable training in smart agriculture, entrepreneurship development, and ICT skills, all aimed at strengthening their capacity and competitiveness in the digital era.

The closing ceremony was officiated by Madam Hilma Rejer (Assistant Secretary of Regional Development Section) from the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Sarawak (M-FICORD). In her speech, she highlighted the importance of this programme as a major step towards achieving the aspirations of the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030. “The SMART Programme is not only about introducing technology, but about transforming how we approach agriculture in a more efficient and sustainable way. With the right knowledge and skills, rural communities can harness innovation to increase productivity and improve competitiveness,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mohamad Isham bin Fauzi, Chief Strategy Officer of Sarawak Skills, congratulated the participants in an online session, describing the programme as a catalyst for innovation and socio-economic transformation in rural Sarawak. He also announced that Batch 3 of the SMART Programme will soon be held in Miri, further strengthening efforts to nurture competitive agro-entrepreneurs in alignment with the Post COVID-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
