Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain has been re-elected Chairman of the Sarawak Skills Management Council. The election of the Sarawak Skills’ Management Council Members for the 2023 – 2026 term took place on 14 August 2023 at the Grand Margherita Hotel in Kuching.

The results of the elections are as follows: Chairman (Sarakoppes Sdn. Bhd. – represented by its Chairman Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain), Vice Chairman I (Petronas Sarawak – represented by Mr. Zulaihi bin Mohd Mantali), Vice Chairman II (Sarawak Energy Berhad represented by Mr. Lee Kim Kong), Vice Chairman III (Hornbill Skyways Sdn. Bhd. represented by Ms Juiata Abdullah @ Juiata Akaw), Secretary (Yang Berbahagia Dato Hajjah Maznah binti Dasmi, Sarawak Skills’ Legal Advisor), and Treasurer (Hizone Sdn. Bhd. represented by Tuan Haji Hilmy bin Othman). The other elected members of the Management Council are One Medicare Sdn. Bhd., Sarawak Electronics and Supporting Industries Companies Association (SECA), KKB Engineering Sdn. Bhd., Senari Synergy Sdn. Bhd., Naim Holdings Berhad, Asteel Group Berhad, Sarawak Information Systems Sdn. Bhd. (SAINS), Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd., and Sarawak Timber Industry Development Corporation (STIDC). The appointed members of the Sarawak Skills Management Council are the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak (MEITD), Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia (MOHR), Ministry of International Trade, Industry and Investment Sarawak (MINTRED), Yayasan Sarawak, Economic Planning Unit, Sarawak, Human Resource Development Corporation (HRD Corp), and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS).

In his acceptance speech following the elections, Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain thanked all Sarawak Skills’ members for their confidence and trust in him as Chairman to chart the way forward for the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions during the new term. He also emphasized the importance of all stakeholders, especially the Government and Industries, working as one to advance the noble objectives of Talent Development.

Among the highlights during the Annual General Meeting were the exchange of Collaboration Agreements, Certificate of Collaboration, and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between Sarawak Skills and its strategic partners. In total, Sarawak Skills formalized its strategic arrangements with twelve strategic partners: Collaboration Agreements (two strategic partners: UAS Utility Mapping Sdn. Bhd. and CODASC Sdn. Bhd.), Certificate of Collaboration (NCMU Consortium), Memoranda of Understanding (nine strategic partners: Excelscape Consulting Private Limited, MKRS Bumi (M) Sdn. Bhd., MIT Academy Sdn. Bhd., MSOSH Academy Sdn. Bhd., Shenviro Hall Sdn. Bhd., Biomedix Solutions Sdn. Bhd., Rakan Impian Agro Sdn. Bhd., Shorefield Communications Sdn. Bhd. and the Malaysian Joint Industry Collaboration (MJIC) Platform.

Commenting on the aforementioned strategic collaboration(s) between Sarawak Skills and its strategic partners, Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Sarawak Skills’ Executive Director who is also the Chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) highlighted, “These strategic initiatives pave the way for Sarawak Skills and our strategic partners to synergize substantial expertise and resources in various areas covering the broad spectrum of talent development, joint research initiatives, consultation services, and providing customized Industry 4.0 solutions to industries across the length and breadth of Sarawak.” He added, “Indeed, the formalization of our strategic relationship(s) with our strategic partners is in line with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030. It is also a shining example of stakeholders working as one to advance the quest for Sarawak to become a developed state by 2030. Yes, our joint initiatives will go a long way towards facilitating the noble cause of talent development and transform the vibrant socio-economic landscape of Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole.”

During the Annual General Meeting, a warm welcome was accorded to a new member of Sarawak Skills, namely Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd. Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji Husain, Chairman of Sarawak Skills presented the Certificate of Membership to Ts. Mazli bin Mustaffa, Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Metro Sdn. Bhd., bringing the number of Sarawak Skills’ members to seventy-five (75). This was followed by the presentation of a Certificate of Appreciation for Distinguished Service to Mr. Shanton Mowe by Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz. Mr. Shanton Mowe represented Sarawak Energy Berhad as a Member of the Sarawak Skills’ Management Council from 2021 until his recent retirement. As a Management Council Member of Sarawak Skills, Mr. Shanton and Sarawak Energy Berhad contributed immensely to the development of Sarawak Skills’ teaching and learning ecosystem, notably in the area of supporting Sarawak Skills’ multipronged approach to talent development. During the aforementioned period, Mr. Shanton served with distinction in various capacities such as Vice Chairman III of the Sarawak Skills Management Council, and Chairman of the Establishment Committee.
