Sarawak Skills has officially embarked on its first-ever hydrogen-related training programme, namely Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicle Safety & Awareness Training, marking a pivotal step in supporting the Sarawak government’s green economy initiative. This pioneering programme underlines Sarawak Skills’ commitment to future-forward, sustainable technology and positions the institution as a key player in the state’s transition towards cleaner energy.
The training aims to equip participants with crucial knowledge and awareness of hydrogen fuel cell vehicle (HFCV) technologies, with a strong focus on safety standards and handling practices. It is especially significant as hydrogen technology becomes an integral component of Sarawak’s broader environmental and economic agenda.

Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of Sarawak Skills, emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating, “Sarawak Skills is proud to be the only training centre in the state to undertake a hydrogen-specific training programme. This not only aligns with the government’s green aspirations but also empowers our local talent with the skills needed for the hydrogen economy.”
This initiative comes on the heels of a strategic collaboration between Sarawak Skills and partners in China, a move that further cements the institution’s role in the development of hydrogen expertise. Through this international partnership, Sarawak Skills has gained access to advanced hydrogen training modules, technologies, and expertise, ensuring that local training standards meet global benchmarks.
Sarawak is currently leading Malaysia’s green transition through various hydrogen initiatives, such as the Hydrogen Bus Project and the construction of the state’s first integrated hydrogen production plant and refueling station. Sarawak Skills is expected to play an increasingly important role in these projects by supplying a pipeline of skilled workers trained in hydrogen technologies.
This new training programme not only supports local employment and technical upskilling but also serves as a foundational step towards building a sustainable hydrogen economy in Sarawak.
