Pekan Pakan, Sarawak – Sarawak Skills has launched a community-based training initiative titled “Introduction to Electrical Installation & Solar Energy Training” recently. This programme is designed to trained participants to the principles of electricity and electrical installation while fostering a deeper understanding of renewable energy, particularly solar power, as a sustainable solution for rural communities.

In his remarks, Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of Sarawak Skills, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in supporting Sarawak’s vision for sustainable and inclusive growth. He stated, “This programme is part of our ongoing commitment to equip Sarawakians with the skills and knowledge necessary for a sustainable future. By promoting renewable energy literacy and safe electrical practices, we are not only uplifting communities but also supporting the State’s agenda to address climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

The programme brings together young participants and Longhouse Chiefs from each district within the Pekan Pakan community. Through a combination of theoretical learning and practical sessions, participants are introduced to the essential concepts of electricity, safe electrical work practices, and the procedures involved in installing, testing, and maintaining domestic electrical systems. In addition, the course provides an overview of how solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, the different types of solar systems such as on-grid, off-grid, and hybrid setups, and the functions of key components including inverters, batteries, and charge controllers.

This initiative aims to strengthen the community’s capacity in both electrical installation and renewable energy applications, aligning with Sarawak’s broader mission to promote sustainable rural development. By equipping participants with practical skills and knowledge, the programme seeks to inspire the adoption of solar energy as a viable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional power sources, especially in rural areas where access to electricity remains limited.

The “Introduction to Electrical Installation & Solar Energy Training” programme reflects Sarawak Skills’ dedication to building a skilled, resilient, and environmentally conscious workforce. As the State continues to advance its renewable energy agenda, initiatives such as this play a vital role in ensuring that rural communities are not left behind in the transition toward a greener and more sustainable Sarawak.
