Datuk Francis Harden Hollis Tours Sarawak Skills’ New Teaching, Learning and Training Facilities

Recently, the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development II (Talent Development) Datuk Francis Harden Hollis visited the Sarawak Skills campus at Tabuan Jaya, Kuching to gain first-hand insights into Sarawak Skills’ new teaching, learning and training facilities.

On arrival, the Deputy Minister was briefed on Sarawak Skills’ latest developments by Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of Sarawak Skills and Chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC). This was followed by a guided tour of Sarawak Skills’ new state-of-the-art facilities, namely the I.R. 4.0 Trendsetter Hub, Smart Solar House and Hydrogen Technology Lab. The visit emphasized the importance of cutting-edge technologies and advanced teaching, learning and training tools in supporting the goals outlined in Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).

Commenting on his visit, Datuk Francis emphasized the importance of the Sarawak Government working closely with institutions like Sarawak Skills to shape Sarawak’s current and future workforce in line with the objectives of PCDS 2030. He also commended Sarawak Skills for implementing a wide range of talent development initiatives to meet the demands of the digital economy.

With regard to Sarawak Skills’ new facilities, Mr. Hallman bin Sabri shared on Sarawak Skills’ commitment to foster a conducive learning and teaching environment that is aligned with the latest technological advancements. “Our students and trainees comprise individuals from diverse backgrounds, including school leavers, working adults, and unemployed graduates. It is imperative for us to adopt up-to-date teaching methods to ensure they acquire the competencies required by today’s industries,” he stated. He added, “In line with Sarawak Skills’ vision as a TVET Trendsetter, we have also embarked on collaborative engagements with industry players from countries such as China and the Philippines. With an emphasis on the automotive and energy sectors, our newly-minted partnerships will go a long way towards facilitating the spirit of innovation and skill development in Sarawak.”
