5-Star Award an Affirmation of the Quality and Relevance of AWISAR’s Automotive and Welding Programmes

The recent rating of five stars by the Department of Skills Development (under the Ministry of Human Resources Malaysia) for all programmes offered by the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR) is an affirmation of the quality and industry-relevance of the institute’s automotive and welding programmes, including its ongoing contributions to advance the noble cause of talent development in Sarawak and Malaysia as a whole. AWISAR is part of the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills).

The awards ceremony was held on 7 March 2024 at the Japan Malaysia Technical Institute (JMTi), Penang in conjunction with the ‘Karnival Jelajah Madani Jom Masuk TVET Zon Utara 2024’. In this respect, during the awards ceremony, Ts. Jaidil bin Yakop, General Manager of AWISAR received the prestigious award from Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Hajah Norison binti Ramli, Deputy Secretary-General (Operation), Ministry of Human Resources. The carnival was organized by the Department of Skills Development (Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran – JPK) in collaboration with JMTi and the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO).

Last year (September 2023), AWISAR received the Best TVET Training Provider Award (Automotive & Welding) during the Malaysia Education & TVET Awards Ceremony 2023 in Kuala Lumpur.

Commenting on the latest award, Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) and Managing Director of AWISAR Sdn. Bhd. highlighted, “It is honour for AWISAR to receive this prestigious award which confers a five-star rating (Highly Competitive) for all our skills programmes, namely Light Vehicle – Repair Service, Light Vehicle – Diagnostic Service, After Sales Service Operation – Motor Vehicle, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) Process, and Welding Technology Management. This award takes its rightful place among our significant achievements during our ongoing voyage to facilitate the noble cause of talent development. Indeed, the award is an eloquent testimony to AWISAR’s role and contributions as a stakeholder in the transformation of our nation’s economic, educational and digital landscape as well as our unwavering commitment to fly the flag of excellence in post-secondary education and training for current and future generations of the workforce.”

He continued, “I wish to take this opportunity to thank the Chairman of Sarawak Skills and the Management Council Members, our stakeholders comprising the government, various sectors of industry, parents, alumni, students and staff members for their support over the years. They have contributed tremendously to the transformation of Sarawak Skills into an award-winning Hub of Industry-Driven Talent Development.”

With regard to related developments at AWISAR, Mr. Hallman who is also the Chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) shared, “In line with the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030) and the State’s ongoing initiatives in carbon reduction emission, I am pleased to share that since the launch of our short course in Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Service and Maintenance in October 2023, we have received tremendous support from the industry and members of the general public. To date, more than sixty (60) participants (four batches) have completed the course.” He added, “The course covers an overview of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles with a focus on working principles, technologies, and safety working procedures around electric/hybrid vehicles. There is also a session on electric/hybrid vehicle hazard management for emergency and recovery personnel. During the two-day programme, the practical sessions enable the participants to “grow their expertise” by gaining first-hand knowledge and skills in the aforementioned areas. This programme will boost industry-relevant knowledge and skills for those involved in this industry, including engineers, supervisors and technicians. The course would also be suitable for members of the public who are interested to learn about hybrid and electric vehicles service and maintenance.”
