The Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) will be offering a short course on Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Service and Maintenance in the first week of October 2023.

The two-day “Introduction to Hybrid and Electric Vehicles Service and Maintenance” course will be conducted at the Automotive and Welding Institute of Sarawak (AWISAR) located at the Demak Laut Industrial Estate, Kuching. AWISAR is part of the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions.

Commenting on the upcoming training programme, Ts. Jaidil bin Yakop, General Manager of AWISAR highlighted, “We have received numerous requests from various automotive centres and workshops to offer a short training programme to enhance the skill sets of technicians and other staff members, specifically in the area of servicing and maintenance of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV).” He emphasized, “The upcoming training programme covers an overview of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (HEVs) with a focus on working principles, technologies, and safety working procedures around electric/hybrid vehicles. There will also be a session on electric/hybrid vehicle hazard management for emergency and recovery personnel. During the two-day programme, the practical sessions will enable participants to gain first-hand knowledge and skills in the aforementioned areas. In a nutshell, this programme will boost industry-relevant knowledge and skills for those involved in this industry, including technicians and supervisors. This programme would also be suitable for members of the public who are interested to learn about hybrid and electric vehicles service and maintenance.”

With regard to ongoing automotive-related developments at the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions, Ts. Jaidil shared, “At Sarawak Skills, we take great pride in complementing the Government and the industries in our joint effort to develop our state’s and nation’s human capital. We are grateful for the tremendous support from the Government and the various sectors of the industry. In this respect, in line with our role as a stakeholder in the transformation of Sarawak’s socio-economic landscape, Sarawak Skills plans to establish a Certified Training Centre for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Sarawak. Indeed, our upcoming training programme is an important step in our ongoing role to support Sarawak’s transport sector, especially in facilitating the development of a workforce with specialized skills in maintenance of Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV) and Electric Vehicles (EV). This will also go a long way towards supporting the transformation of Sarawak’s six key economic sectors (main engines of growth) in line with the Sarawak Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS 2030).”
