In line with its role as a stakeholder in the transformation of Sarawak’s socio-economic landscape, the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) plans to establish a Certified Training Centre for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles in Sarawak. In this respect, on 6 May 2023, Sarawak Skills, in collaboration with its Strategic Partner, the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology Centre of Kolej Komuniti Kepala Batas, launched the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Training Course for Sarawak Skills’ teaching staff and trainers. Fifteen (15) instructors, lecturers and trainers from across the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions are participating in the course from 6 to 9 May 2023 at Sarawak Skills, Tabuan Jaya, Kuching.

In his speech to launch the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Training Course, Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of Sarawak Skills and Chairman of the Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) highlighted, “I wish to thank our Strategic Partner, namely the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Technology Centre of Kolej Komuniti Kepala Batas for this wonderful opportunity to synergize our expertise and resources, especially in the area of providing specialized training on electric and hybrid vehicles. Indeed, as the only centre in the Asia-Pacific Region to offer Level(s) 1 to 4 of the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), United Kingdom’s award/certification programmes for electric and hybrid vehicles, we are grateful for the technical expertise and support by Kolej Komuniti Kepala Batas in our quest to establish a Certified Training Centre for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Sarawak.” He added, “I am pleased to know that upon completion of this four-day course and passing the oral, written and practical assessments, the participants will earn three (3) internationally recognized certifications, namely the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), United Kingdom International Level 1 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Awareness, IMI International Level 2 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle Hazard Management for Emergency and Recovery Personnel, and IMI International Level 3 Award in Electric/Hybrid Vehicle System Repair and Replacement. With this pool of Certified Trainers for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) and Electrical Vehicles (EVs), Sarawak Skills will be able to take that all-important first step to establish a Certified Training Centre to offer HEV and EV programmes. In this respect, I am pleased to share that with the support of the Sarawak Government, the Sarawak Skills Group of Learning Institutions will be setting up a dedicated Advanced Automotive Training College (AATC) in Kuching that will also accommodate the maintenance of Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles.”
