Introduction

Electrical and electronic engineering plays an important role in the recent revolution of science and technology. It is rapidly developing and therefore causing the increased need for skilled manpower in the field. The Certificate in Electrical/Electronic Engineering offered in ICATS covers a wide variety of fundamentals in electrical and electronic engineering.

1 year and 6 months (Full-time)

Fees

A course fee has been set for every graduate course at the college. The fees are determined by the course, not the subjects that comprise the course.

Objective

  • To provide an opportunity to SPM school leavers who are unable to pursue to diploma level to study certificates as the entry requirement for diploma level
  • To provide opportunities to students for employment upon completion of the course
  • To provide a pathway for students with outstanding practical skills to pursue their education to a higher level

Carrer Opportunities & Professional Recognition

Ideally, i-CATS graduates are encouraged to further their studies to Higher National Diploma and subsequently degree level. The electrical/electronic industry is one of the largest industries in the world which offers a wide variety of employment opportunities. Apart from the mainstream commercial activities of circuit and systems design of semiconductors and communication, graduates can also take up a career in financial industries, broadcasting, in the civil service, and even in the police and military service.

  • Passed SPM/SPMV with at least 1 credit in any subject and a pass in Mathematics OR
  • Passed Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least Grade B in 1 subject and a pass in Mathematics OR
  • Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by Malaysian Government.

PEARSON BTEC HND Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in Collaboration with EDEXEL International, UK (R/523/4/0058)

Introduction

The HND programme is a programme by BTEC Edexcel from the United Kingdom, which is recognized worldwide. The qualifications are delivered locally but the certification and quality assurance is conducted by the awarding body every semester. Among the features unique to HND programmes are:-

  • Outcome-based education
  • Less emphasis on traditional classroom teaching and more hands-on learning
  • Internal and external verification
  • More assignment-based and less exam-oriented
  • Modular programmes that allow greater flexibility for students
  • Common skills incorporated into the programme, such as communication, IT, and management

Aim

The Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronic Program aims to produce high-quality, creative technicians and engineers. Graduates will be highly sought after and recognized by many international professional bodies.

Duration

The minimum duration for full-time study to complete a module is 2.5 years (4 months OJT).

Carrer Opportunities & Professional Recognition

Students completing this programme will be suitable for employment related to the electrical and electronics field in various industries such as oil and gas, power, manufacturing, and engineering consultancy. HND graduates are also accepted into Universities in the UK, Commonwealth countries, and the United States to continue their Bachelor’s Degree. Typically, HND graduates are entitled to direct entry to the second year of a Bachelor’s Degree course at local or overseas universities.

Entry Requirements

  • Passed SPM with at least 3 credits including Mathematics and 1 Science/Technical/Vocational subject and a pass in English; OR
  • Passed Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) with at least a full pass in any subject and credit in Mathematics and 1 Science subject at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level; OR
  • Passed A-Level with at least grade C in Science or Mathematics; OR
  • Passed O – Level with at least grade C in 3 subjects including Mathematics and one Science/Technical/ Vocational subject and a pass in English; OR
  • Passed Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) with at least a Grade B in 3 subjects including Mathematics and one Science/Technical/Vocational subject; OR
  • Completed Certificate in Vocational and Technical/Skills equivalent to MQF Level 3 with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and 1-year working experience in related field (or completed a one-semester Bridging Programme); OR
  • Completed Certificate in Engineering/Engineering Technology (MQF Level 3) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00; OR
  • Any other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government.
