The recent BrandLaureate SMEs BestBrands Award 2023 in the category of “Best
Choice – Education: Technical Skills Excellence” bestowed on i-CATS University
College (i-CATS UC) is an affirmation of the institution’s contributions to Global
Talent Development.

Mr. Hallman bin Sabri, Executive Director of the Sarawak Skills Group of
Learning Institutions (Sarawak Skills) and Managing Director of PPKS Ilmu Sdn.
Bhd. received the aforementioned prestigious award by The World Brands
Foundation (The BrandLaureate) during the awards ceremony on 15 June 2023 at
The Majestic Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. In this respect, the award was presented by
Mr. Rizal Nainy, CEO of SME Corp. Malaysia and witnessed by Dr. KKJohan,
World President of The BrandLaureate, and Mr. Farouq Sahibjahn, General
Manager of The BrandLaureate. i-CATS UC is managed by PPKS Ilmu Sdn. Bhd.,
a subsidiary of Sarawak Skills (PPKS – Pusat Pembangunan Kemahiran Sarawak).

Also present to share the joy and significance of the occasion were members of the
Sarawak Skills Management Council, Members of the i-CATS UC Board of
Governors, and members of the Sarawak Skills and i-CATS UC senior
management team, including Datu Haji Hashim bin Haji Bojet (Vice Chairman II,
Sarawak Skills Management Council & member of the i-CATS UC Board of
Governors), Dato Hajjah Maznah binti Haji Dasmi (Secretary, Sarawak Skills
Management Council and member of the i-CATS UC Board of Governors), Tuan
Haji Hilmy bin Haji Othman (Treasurer, Sarawak Skills Management Council &
member of the i-CATS UC Board of Governors), and Professor Dr. Shahren

Ahmad Zaidi Adruce (Vice Chancellor of i-CATS UC, and member of the i-CATS
UC Board of Governors).

Commenting on the award, Mr. Hallman who is also the Chairman of the
Federation of Malaysian Skills Development Centres (FMSDC) highlighted, “It is
indeed an honour for i-CATS UC to receive this prestigious award from The World
Brands Foundation (TWBF), the world’s only branding foundation dedicated to
developing brands in a myriad of business backdrops. The BrandLaureate Awards
recognize the best brands, and winning this award is a testament to i-CATS UC’s
unwavering commitment to fly the flag excellence in tertiary-level education, and
training for public and private sector employees.”

He continued, “I wish to take this opportunity to thank YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan
Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg,
Premier of Sarawak and Chancellor of i-CATS UC. This award is an eloquent
testimony to his contribution as the Chancellor of i-CATS UC and ongoing role as
the architect of Sarawak’s economic and social development. I would also like to
thank Yang Berbahagia Tan Sri Datuk Amar (Dr) Haji Abdul Aziz bin Dato Haji
Husain, Chairman of Sarawak Skills and Pro-Chancellor of i-CATS UC, Yang
Berhormat Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn, Minister for Education, Innovation and
Talent Development (MEITD) and Pro-Chancellor of i-CATS UC, Management
Council Members, and our stakeholders comprising the government, various
sectors of industry, parents, alumni, students and staff members for their
tremendous support over the years. They have contributed tremendously to the
transformation of i-CATS UC into a leading tertiary education provider in the
region, and a hub of educational excellence. With its impressive track record of
nurturing agile and future-ready Malaysian and international graduates, i-CATS

UC has become the destination of choice for many students from Malaysia and
overseas who seek tertiary-level qualifications that will prepare them for their
future careers. Yes, this award motivates us to raise the bar even higher, especially
in our ongoing contributions to global talent development.”

Mr. Hallman also shared that with the support of i-CATS UC’s major stakeholders
from the government and industries, the University College is developing a range
of new programmes (Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctorate/Ph.D.) to support
Sarawak’s key economic sectors/main engines of growth. These programmes are
aligned with the Sarawak Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS
2030).
